I found a space in my office, intially for three paintings 12"x12" but decided to add a fourth and even a fifth to that. The background is white so I thought of doing a series about the famous Japanese gates, called Toriis. This is the fifth AND final one of this series, with a amical wink towards Jin7.
In 2011, I visited the Torii at the Itsukushima shrine near Hiroshima, Japan (see alternative picture) which can only be visited a few hours a day since most of the time, the tides have flooded the area. The painted torii is NOT the same as the one I visited in Japan. The picture is a reference only.
The Buddha was painted as my personal respect to Japanese people and culture.
The painting was prepared with white gesso, red (scarlet) acryl and finished with black markers.
Please enjoy, arigato!
Takaoka City, where the Amaharashi coast is located, has the third largest Buddha statue in Japan. Your imagination is endless. It's not enough to say thank you many times.
You make me humble Jin, and blushing, for your wonderful and amical comments.
Japan is my third favourite country in the world (to visit), did I ever tell you that? I only visited it twice and that's about twenty times too few!
I learned and know the beauty of your country, the great respect of the people, the honour, the technics ... the sake! Smiling here now!
I saw several Buddha's in Japan yet never a giant one. I missed to visit the giant Buddha in Bangkok (Thaïland).
Maybe I should think of doing another series about Japan, it would be worth to try.
Wishing you all the best from little Belgium Jin, stay safe, take good care and happy painting!

Thanks Tom, still this month, I intend to mount them in my office, all five in a row.
The series will stop, not because of the lack of ideas but simply because the lack of space! Now, I am working on an idea with 'flower girls' as a alternative for my 'Belle' series.
As always, I'm very appriciative of your cheers and support!
Happy painting!
